The two rooftop projects
Budget manager
Build a personal finance tracker that stores transactions in cents, calculates balances by category, generates aligned reports, and round-trips data to CSV without losing precision. The Budget class enforces type safety and date validation, teaching data integrity in a real-world tool.
- add() stores transactions, and balance() returns the sum in cents
- add() raises BudgetError for a bad date, a non-integer amount or an empty category
- by_category() totals one month by category
- monthly_report() prints an aligned table with a total line
- to_csv() and from_csv() round-trip all transactions
- Money is stored as whole cents, never floats
Library manager
Build a library system with book and member management, checkout/return tracking, late fees, full-text search, and persistent JSON storage. Learn dataclasses for clean data models, exception hierarchy for error handling, and a text menu interface that orchestrates complex operations.
- Books and members are dataclasses
- checkout() lends a copy and raises NotAvailable when none are left
- checkout() raises UnknownMember for an unknown member
- return_book() charges 25 cents per day after 14 days
- search() matches title or author, case-insensitively
- save() and load() round-trip the library as JSON
- run() handles the menu commands and returns the output lines
- You wrote at least 5 test functions named test_ in main.py
Questions
Do I need to install anything?
No. Everything runs in your browser. For the projects you can also work on your own computer and upload your files.
Can I skip what I already know?
Yes. Once you own a tower, each floor has a skip test: score 8 out of 10 and that floor opens.
What is the refund policy?
Refunds within 5 days of purchase. After 5 days, no refunds or returns.
Do I keep access?
Yes. A tower you buy is yours, with no subscription.
